Behaviorism
A behaviorist style of teaching focuses on the importance of the environment shaping the behavior. The style focuses on hands-on training and incorporates accountability. I have a behaviorist style of teaching. I believe that only so much can be learned within the confines of a traditional classroom. There needs to be hands-on interaction to better develop skills. In the fire service we are consistently working on skill development and trying to better our crews. I feel that this leads to a very strong behaviorist approach to learning. We hold each other accountable for our specific roles and behaviors. Most of our testing is a competency-based style of testing which also points towards a behaviorist orientation.
